Learning through play

‘As an Early Childhood Teacher my goal is to be a facilitator of activating each child’s own natural desire to learn using play to achieve their full potential.’

Maria Callegari

Director & Educational Leader

Community

Clyde Street Kindergarten (CSK) has been part of the Darebin Community for more than 60 years. Our kindergarten is set in a fantastic natural environment and is close to public transport, a number of local primary schools and community centres. Our community focused kindergarten is run by an active parent Committee. We offer both pre kindergarten (three year old kindergarten) and kindergarten (four year old kindergarten) sessions in a child centred, stimulating play environment with endless opportunities for children’s growth and learning. We work in partnership with families to nurture and support children in these vital and exciting years of life.

Environment

Our wonderful outdoor playground incorporates beautiful trees, plenty of shade, all sorts of natural spaces and versatile equipment. Our Edible Garden is a year round immersive experience, from which the issues of sustainability, biodiversity, seasonality and nutrition are explored. Our indoor space is welcoming, bright and exciting. We utilise our large playroom to provide a wide range of small group, large group and individual experiences.

People

Our kindergarten program is planned and delivered by highly qualified and extremely dedicated Early Childhood Teachers.  These qualities, together with their longevity at Clyde Street Kindergarten, make the staff one of our greatest assets. We continue to achieve a rating of ‘Exceeding’ in our assessment by the Department of Education and Training, most recently in 2017.

Play

We focus on PLAY being a child’s natural way of learning, which promotes the development of social skills, engagement in their environment and exploration of what they are able to achieve. Our principles of being an inclusive and respectful environment are embedded into our daily activities and practices with the children, families and staff.
