Our Edible Garden program is a totally ‘hands on’ experience which sees children planting, weeding, watering and harvesting our vegetable patch and sensory herb garden as an integrated part of their day to day kinder routine.
This year, our four year old groups will be involved in setting up compost and worm farm systems. Not only does this engage children in the most of obvious of questions – ‘where does my food come from?’– it also begins conversations around their place in the world and the bigger picture issues of sustainability, nutrition, seasonality, soil health, biodiversity, waste, recycling and water.
These themes and experiences are carried through our program and explored with books, songs, activities and themed play spaces recognising that children learn in different ways and are engaged by different media.
